easyJet Italy strike today, how about compensation?
If easyJet employees, such as cabin crew or pilots, go on strike, passengers may be entitled to compensation for a long delay or cancellation. Because the strike involves the airline’s own staff, easyJet may be held responsible for the disruption. Whether compensation is payable depends on the specific circumstances of the flight.

easyJet pilots strike in Italy on May 11
On Monday May 11 there will be a national strike in Italy. The ground staff and Air Traffic Control staff are protesting and this will cause delays and cancellations at major airports. The strike is between 10:00 am and 18:00 pm.
The eastJet pilots and cabin crew will also be striking at Rome’s area control centre, Naples and Cagliari. They are protesting for rostering, post-pandemic pay and new aircraft integration.
In principle, this is considered an extraordinary circumstance for airlines, which means passengers are not entitled to compensation. However, passengers are still entitled to a ticket refund or rebooking.

Four-hour easyJet strike in Italy (31 January)
easyJet travellers on routes within Italy, and flights to or from Italy, may experience disruption on Saturday 31 January 2026. Unions representing the airline’s pilots and cabin crew have announced a nationwide walk-out from 13:00 to 17:00 (local time). Several airports have issued alerts about the risk of delays and cancellations and recommend passengers keep a close eye on their flight updates. The action is tied to ongoing discussions about working schedules and pay, and because it takes place outside Italy’s protected “guaranteed flight” periods, more services could be affected.
Your right to care if your easyJet flight is delayed
If a strike causes unexpected disruption, you may find yourself stuck at the airport. When your easyJet flight is delayed by more than two hours, the airline must provide basic care, including meals and refreshments. If an overnight stay becomes necessary, hotel accommodation and transport must also be arranged.
You are not obliged to accept an alternative easyJet flight
In the event of a cancellation or long delay, easyJet must offer you an alternative flight at no extra cost. However, if the proposed option does not suit your travel plans, you are free to decline it.
Should you choose not to travel, the airline must refund your ticket. If you book a suitable replacement flight yourself and easyJet fails to offer a reasonable alternative, you may claim back the price difference.
Wait for confirmation from easyJet before rebooking
Although it may be tempting to arrange a new flight immediately, we recommend waiting until easyJet officially confirms the cancellation. If the strike is called off and your flight operates as planned, you could lose the money spent on a new ticket.
Compensation after an easyJet staff strike
When a strike involves the airline’s own staff, such as pilots or cabin crew, easyJet may be held responsible. Under EU Regulation 261/2004, this is generally not considered an extraordinary circumstance.
If your arrival is delayed by more than three hours or your flight is cancelled at short notice, you may be entitled to compensation. The exact amount depends on your flight distance.
Compensation is not linked to the price of your ticket. In some cases, the compensation amount may even exceed what you originally paid. The distance of your journey determines the amount.
