Regulation 261/2004 was amended after Brexit to the The Air Passenger Rights and Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 has been set in place to uphold your rights as airline passenger when you flight is cancelled. Both legislations protect your rights as an airline passenger and determines the obligations of the airline.

Your rights for a cancelled flight to or from Norway

Your right to compensation for a flight cancellation depends on the moment you were informed about the flight cancellation:

• You are not entitled to compensation if you were informed more then two weeks in advance
• You are entitled to compensation if you are informed between 14 and 7 days before departure and you arrived more than 4 hours later
• You are entitled to compensation if you were informed 7 days or less before departure and you arrived more than 2 hours later.

You are only compensated if you were flying from an EU country, or from outside the EU tot a EU country with a European airline.

What if the airline can proof extraordinary circumstances?

If the airline can prove that there were ‘extraordinary circumstances’ and it was not responsible for the delay, you will not be entitled to compensation. Examples include bad weather conditions, terrorism, emergency landings and strikes.

How much compensation are you entitled to for a cancelled flight to or from Norway?

If your cancelled flight to or from Norway is covered by Regulation 261/2004 you are entitled to compensation when no extraordinary circumstances apply. The amount of compensation is a set amount based on the distance of your flight.

Within the EU:

• €250 compensation for a cancelled flight up to 1500 km
• €400 compensation for a cancelled flight between 1500 and 3500 km

For flight destinations outside the EU you are entitled to:

• €250 compensation for a cancelled flight up to 1500 km
• €400 compensation for a cancelled flight between 1500 and 3500 km
• €600 compensation for a flight exceeding 3500 km
