SAS Scandinavian Airlines strike on Saturday August 8

SAS cabin crew members in Norway are threatening to go on strike from Saturday, August 8. This could lead to flight delays and cancellations. Is your flight affected by the strike? You may be entitled to compensation and assistance.

Compensation rights during an SAS strike

A strike by an airline’s own employees generally falls within the airline’s responsibility. Do you arrive at your final destination at least three hours late, or is your flight cancelled shortly before departure? You may be entitled to €250, €400 or €600 in compensation. European air passenger rights also apply to flights to and from Norway.

SAS also has a duty of care. Depending on the length of the delay, the airline must provide food and drinks. Do you need to stay overnight because of the disruption? You are entitled to hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the hotel. If your flight is cancelled, SAS must also offer you a choice between an alternative flight and a refund of your ticket.

Possible delays and cancellations from August 8

The employees have rejected a proposed wage agreement. The Fellesforbundet trade union has announced that 468 cabin crew members will go on strike if no new agreement is reached before August 8. The Parat trade union is also considering strike action.

The strike could mainly affect SAS flights operated by Norwegian cabin crew. An agreement between the trade unions and SAS could still prevent the strike.
