    Unite confirmed the outcome of the vote on Tuesday with strike action supported by 98.5% of around 200 ICTS (UK) Limited workers at Glasgow and a further 100 or so at Aberdeen airport, for a total of 89.7% in favour of strike action.

Strike at Glasgow International Airport: are you entitled to compensation?

This means that you have the right to compensation if the airline’s own personnel with whom you are flying with go on strike, whether it is cabin or ground crew. In this case, the airline can be held responsible and you may be entitled to compensation.

Regulation 261/2004 and compensation for airline strike disruptions

Although Regulation 261/2004 provides compensation in certain circumstances, there are numerous scenarios in which you are not entitled to compensation.

When you purchase a ticket, the airline assumes responsibility for getting you from point A to point B. However, if the strike is outside of their control and they cannot fulfill their obligations, you are not eligible for compensation. When are you not entitled to compensation?

You are not entitled to compensation if the strike is caused by personnel other than the airline’s own staff, such as:

  • Air traffic control strike
  • Security personnel strike
  • Baggage handler strike
  • Other ground staff strike

What you are entitled to as a victim of the strike at Glasgow International Airport

If your flight is delayed due to the strike in Scotland and it is outside the control of the airline you are flying with, you are not entitled to compensation. However, if the delay is more than 2 hours, the airline has a duty of care towards you. This means that you are entitled to food and drinks, and if the delay is very long, the airline must also arrange accommodation for you.
