“Black day” for air travel in Italy on May 11
Monday May 11 will be a disruptive day for aviation in Italy. The Air Traffic Control staff and the ground staff are walking out to protest. This is a national strike and will cause delays and cancellations at major airports.
The strike is between 10:00 am and 18:00 pm and it is expected to cause a lot of delays to flights in and out of major airports such as Rome’s Fiumicino, Naples and Cagliari. Thousands of travelers, leisure tourists and business travelers will be affected. They are facing these delays and cancellations.
EasyJet pilots and cabin crew will also be participating with their own strike on Monday May 11 at Rome’s area control centre, Naples and Cagliari.
In principle, this is considered an extraordinary circumstance for airlines, which means passengers are not entitled to compensation. However, passengers are still entitled to a ticket refund or rebooking.
