Ryanair airplane in trouble during take-off

A Ryanair airplane that was supposed to operate a flight from Malta to London experienced troubles during take-off. The tail of the aircraft hit the runway, which made the pilot decide to turn around as soon as possible.

The airplane landed safely and the passengers reached their final destination with a severe delay. The airplane is currently being repaired.

Am I entitled to compensation in this situation?

Yes you are! The passengers on this flight are entitled to financial compensation. A tailstrike is a consequence of an error made by the pilot, thus not an extraordinary circumstance. It will therefore be almost impossible for the airline to prove there were extraordinary circumstances involved. Unless, for example, a storm or wind gusts are present. If this is the case, the situation has to be investigated differently.
