A large technical issue with the Dutch Air Traffic Control in Amsterdam resulted in flight problems to and from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport yesterday. Many flights to and from the UK were affected by the technical issues.

Passengers flying from London Luton can add new destinations to their wish list as Wizz Air is opening five new routes from the London airport. Four new Airbus A320 planes are being stationed at Luton next summer.

Passengers paying the lowest rate for their ticket are now facing the downside of being able to board the plane last. British Airways is coming up with a new boarding system allowing passengers to board in groups based on their travel class and the kind of ticket they purchased.

Today, the 10^th of November, the Air Traffic Control of Rome and Brescia is going on strike between 12.00 and 16.00 PM. This means that no flights will be able to land or take-off from Rome and North-Italian airports.

After 85 days of strike British Airways finally managed to solve its dispute with the mixed fleet crew and union Unite over pay rises. The agreement includes that flight attendants are receiving inflation adjusting pay rises. Also partakers of the industrial action are being brought back in to the airlines bonus program concerning travel concessions and entitlements.

As Air Berlin saw the curtains close for good last week the sale of its fleet has been finalized the past weekend. As Lufthansa bought the largest part of the German airline also British budget airline easyJet managed to strike a deal for 24 Airbus airplanes, expanding their position at Berlin Tegel Airport by covering the previous Air Berlin slots.

It is the farthest east ever that a hurricane in the Atlantic has travelled as today Ireland and the UK are being hit by hurricane Ophelia. Reaching winds up to 90 mph the hurricane is expected to cause quite a stir in daily life. Flights from and to Dublin, Cork, Belfast and other major airports have been cancelled by the threat Ophelia poses.

For years Non-European airlines have managed to dodge compensation claims for missed connections taking place outside of the EU, but in a recent ruling the judge decided in favor of passengers that were at the receiving end of missed connections.

Yesterday was a rough day in commercial air travel history as the French Air Traffic Control went on strike once again. This time the impact exceeded everyones’ expectations. It was the largest impact in years caused by a strike in ATC.
